ChangE Your Risk For Alzheimer's with Vitamin C and E

February, 2004

The new spot for the Fountain of Aging Well seems to be Cache County, Utah. Or perhaps we should say CaChE County, given the new research on Vitamin C and E coming out of the community.

A study of 3,500 residents conducted by Johns Hopkins, Duke, Utah State University and the University of Washington revealed that older adults who take supplements of vitamin C (at least 500 milligrams) and E (at least 400 international units) together may reduce their risk of Alzheimer's disease, and possibly dementia, although a cause-and-effect relationship has not been proven for dementia. The results from the Cache County Study on Memory, Health and Aging were published in the January 2004 Archives of Neurology.

Antioxidants have continually been touted and proven to reduce oxygen damage in cells, reducing the risk of cancer and other diseases. The latest research about the antioxidant weapon against Alzheimer's gives you an incentive, as if you needed one, to eat right early in life.

If you are 65 and older, like the residents of Cache County in the study, you can turn back the clock and keep the mental sharpness and vitality you enjoy today. Even better, you don't have to restrict yourself to vitamin supplements. Juicing is a terrific way to pack your diet with vitamin E and C.

Love oranges, tangerines, lemons, and grapefruit? Try an orange and strawberry flip with a teaspoon of almonds or flaxseeds. Add some grains for a super selenium boost, and remember oranges also are a selenium source.

Dark green veggies give you a double dose of anti-Alzheimer's prevention, since broccoli, kale and spinach are full of vitamin C and E, as well as other essential nutrients such as lutein.

Also, try a blueberry-raspberry smoothie, since blueberries and raspberries are also antioxidant powerhouses. The residents of Cache County agree!

To keep your vitality, make a ChoicE to ChangE your diet, and put the power of vitamin C and E in your juice when you buy LivingRight juicers and health appliances! We recommend the OrangeX Mid-Size Citrus Press to squeeze the most out of your orange juice.

We haven't forgotten about wheatgrass! One ounce of anti-bacterial, cleansing wheatgrass, with the vitamin and mineral equivalent of 2.2 pounds of vegetables, combines the elusive vitamin B12 with a healthy shot of vitamin C and E. LivingRight appliances such as the Miracle Electric Wheatgrass Juicer allow you to have your anti-Alzheimer's revitalizing ounce of wheatgrass every day! We heartily recommend that the Cache County Study on Memory, Health and Aging examine the effects of wheatgrass on Alzheimer's prevention!
